#99 sold soul
And then, precisely at 5 o'clock, Rayleigh shut down his computer. Pulled the plug, literally. He ran off from his desk, jumped down the stairs, stormed through glass doors and into the scorching outside there he was. Five minutes in, he drenched in sweats. Just about ten metres he dashed for thumb out at the guard's post and another fifteen or so he dashed through the heatwave into the roofed parking lot. Mind you it was tropical, record highs temperature but inside, in his heart was hellfire.
He unlocked his car, changed his shoes to flip flops. Engines on and he was ready to go. And away he drove.
Sun was set then slept, right so moon risen.
From industrial roads, through the highways and he was lost. In like ten hours, he wandered off without him realized. Something had possessed him and brought him to a single lamp post, barren crossroad.
He stopped mid road and get off his car. Hungry, tired, and confused. Lights still on.
He looked to the left.
Then to the right.
Looked far in front.
And beyond behind.
He felt familiar. It was junction of his life, of course!
From the road he was standing, the junction lead to another four. But something weird was going on. Slowly, one road disappear.
"Wha-"
And another one.
"the hell?"
And another one. It became crossroads of three.
"so, I guess you wanna make another deal?" A dapper gentleman spoke as he revealing himself from the dark.
"you've come here 'cause you're not satisfied with what I offered. What? Was it not good enough?"
Unabled to say anything, Rayleigh just stood by his car, frozen by the gentleman aura.
"see, I know. Humans will never feel enough. Right, what kind of deal are we on this time?"
One road disappeard. Rayleigh flustered.
"I want my life back!" He was angry.
"No."
"Please." He begged.
"you don't have anything to offer, so no. Sorry."
One last road disappeared. Rayleigh was so desperate, so fucked up and left with no choice.
"I-I will sell my sou-"
"It was sold. For money yeah? So, no."
Rayleigh succumbed to the despair. He fell on his knees.
The gentleman turned away and walked into the dark. "go back. That road's the deal. And there is no way to unsold the soul."
